CPL Healthcare including Homecare has a dedicated Training Unit in house which provides a wide variety of training for our Nurses, Health Care Assistants and Support workers to meet the requirements of our clients to ensure all staff is compliant.

The Healthcare Training we provide is available for our staff currently working in the agency and is also available to staff that are wishing to join the agency.

Patient Moving and Handling

CPL Healthcare Moving and Handling Training is provided in house and the course content adheres to the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act 2005 and the Royal College of Nursing’s Guide to the Handling of People, 2005.

The course content includes the following;

• Law-Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act 2005, Manual Handling Regulations 2007 & Sensitive Group Regulations 2007
• Anatomy of Spine and Musculo-Skeletal System
• Ergonomics
• Safe Handling Principles
• Risk Assessment (TILE Methodology)

Basic Life Support

CPL Healthcare Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider's course is conducted by "Heart Safety Solutions" and is certified by the Irish Heart Foundation.

The course content includes the following;

• CPR for adult and child (1 to 8 years) and Infant (Birth to 1 year).
• Use of an Automated External Defibrillator for Adult and Child.
• Management of foreign body airway obstruction for adult, child and infant.

Infection Prevention and Control

CPL Healthcare Infection Control course for Health Care Assistants is delivered in our Training facilities in Clanwilliam Place. The course is in line with the Health Management Institutes – Standard Precautions in the Irish Healthcare Setting, using the recognised DVD and practical sessions.

The course content includes the following;

• An overview on Infection control including Hospital Acquired Infections causes and occurrences.
• The World Health Organisation information on “Cleaner Care is Safer Care Pact”
• Infection Prevention and control
• Hand Hygiene including how to wash hands in line with the Strategy for the Control of Antimicrobial Resistance in Ireland (SARI) regulations. This includes the correct techniques and when to use Alcohol Hand Gels.
• A practical session for each participant to wash hands and view areas of hands missed.
• Waste Management and Decontamination issues.
• Personal Protection including the types of protective equipment available to use.
• Needlestick injuries or any occupational health injury/ accident – what to do and how to report it

Pandemic H1N1 Training

CPL Healthcare Pandemic H1N1- Key infection prevention and control practices for healthcare staff. The course is in line with the Health Management Institutes – Standard Precautions in the Irish Healthcare Setting, using the recognised DVD and practical sessions.

The course content includes the following:

• An overview of H1N1 including all symptoms that would indicate H1N1.
• Hand Hygiene including how to wash hands in line with the Strategy for the Control of Antimicrobial Resistance in Ireland (SARI) regulations. This includes the correct techniques and when to use Alcohol Hand Gels.
• Respiratory hygiene and Cough Etiquette
• Correct Mask Fitting of Surgical and FFP2/3 masks
• Donning and Removing on Personal Protective Equipment in line with local policy for all cases of suspected or confirmed cases of H1N1 2009.

Crisis Prevention Intervention

CPL Healthcare’s - Non Violent Crisis Prevention Intervention. The course is conducted in line with the Crisis Prevention institutes model. The Non – Crisis Intervention programme is a safe, non-harmful behaviour management system designed to help all staff provide for the best possible Care, Welfare, Safety and Security of disruptive, assaultive and out of control individuals even during their most violent moments.

The course undertakes practical sessions on:

• Kick Blocks
• One Hand Wrist Grab release
• Two Hand Wrist Grab release
• One Hand Hair Pull release
• Two Hand Hair pull release
• Front choke release
• Back choke release
• Bite release

Recognising and Responding to Elder Abuse – Optional and as requested by a client

The course is delivered in house in our dedicated training unit and in delivered using the HSE Recognising &Responding to Elder Abuse in Care Settings and is in line with the Section 8- The Protection Standard of the National Quality Standards for Residential Care Settings for Older People in Ireland as published by HIQA.

The training programme is designed to:

• Increase knowledge and understanding of what elder abuse is
• Help staff identity care practices that might lead to or contribute to elder abuse
• Help staff recognise elder abuse
• Explain the actions that need to be taken if it is suspected that elder abuse is taking place.
