Job Title: Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON)

Location: Nursing Home (various locations across Ireland) - Laois, Dublin & Tipperary

Reports to: Director of Nursing (DON)

Hours: Full-time, typically 37.5–40 hours per week

Role Summary:

The Assistant Director of Nursing supports the Director of Nursing in managing the overall delivery of high-quality nursing care in the nursing home. The ADON plays a key leadership role in clinical governance, staff management, and ensuring compliance with HIQA standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Clinical Leadership:
    • Ensure the highest standards of nursing care are delivered to residents.
    • Oversee clinical practices and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
    • Support the implementation of care plans and risk assessments.
  • Staff Management:
    • Supervise, mentor, and support nursing and care staff.
    • Assist in recruitment, induction, and ongoing training of staff.
    • Conduct performance reviews and manage staff rosters.
  • Quality & Compliance:
    • Ensure adherence to HIQA standards and internal policies.
    • Participate in audits and quality improvement initiatives.
    • Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation.
  • Resident & Family Engagement:
    • Promote a person-centred approach to care.
    • Act as a point of contact for residents and families regarding care concerns.
  • Operational Support:
    • Deputise for the Director of Nursing as required.
    • Assist in budget management and resource allocation.
    • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and external agencies.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Registered Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI).
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in elderly care, with at least 2 years in a senior nursing role.
  • A postgraduate qualification in Nursing Management or equivalent is often desirable.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organisational skills.
