We are seeking an Assistant Person in Charge (APIC), Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) to join a well-established nursing home in Killarney, Kerry. This is an exciting opportunity to work alongside the Person in Charge/Director of Nursing, providing clinical leadership, supporting staff development, and ensuring residents receive the highest standard of person-centred care.

About the Role

As the Assistant PIC/DON you will play a key leadership role in the day-to-day management of the nursing home. Working closely with the Person in Charge/DON, you will help maintain regulatory compliance, support clinical governance, mentor nursing staff, and foster a culture of excellence, dignity, and respect for all residents.

In the absence of the Person in Charge/Director of Nursing, you will assume responsibility for the overall management of the home in line with HIQA standards and the Health Act 2007.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the Person in Charge/Director of Nursing with the daily management and clinical leadership of the nursing home.
  • Ensure the delivery of safe, high-quality, person-centred care.
  • Lead, motivate, and support the nursing and care teams.
  • Promote a positive, respectful, and collaborative working environment.
  • Ensure compliance with HIQA standards, legislation, and company policies.
  • Safeguard residents and promote their dignity, rights, and wellbeing.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives, audits, and clinical governance.
  • Assist with staffing, rostering, and performance management.
  • Support staff learning, mentoring, and professional development.
  • Be available to work flexible shifts, including days, nights, and weekends when required.

Candidate Requirements

To be considered, you will have:

  • A Third Level Degree in Nursing.
  • Active registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI) and a current PIN.
  • A postgraduate qualification in Healthcare Management (or willingness to complete one).
  • A postgraduate qualification in Gerontology or Dementia Care is desirable.
  • A minimum of 6 years' post-registration nursing experience.
  • At least 2 years' experience in a nursing home.
  • A minimum of 2 years' management experience.
  • Strong clinical knowledge and leadership skills.
  • Excellent communication, organisational, and interpersonal skills.
  • A genuine passion for providing outstanding care to older people.
