Pharmacist – Regional Hospital Mullingar
Pharmacist required by Cpl Healthcare, in partnership with the HSE, for a new opportunity in Regional Hospital Mullingar to assist in the medication management process and high quality pharmacy service to wards and departments, and to promote the safe, effective and economic use of medicines at the Regional Hospital Mullingar.
Principal duties and responsibilities will include:
• The supply of drugs, pharmaceuticals and other related items as may be required.
• The purchase, storage and supply of medicines to wards and department with reference to legal requirements, transit, security and conditions of chemical and physical stability.
• The maintenance of records for purchasing, quality control, compounding and dispensing to the standards required.
• Managing medication shortages, including identifying and ensuring the quality and safety of alternative medications
• Working closely with the procurement pharmacy technicians regarding the purchase and supply of medicines
• Participation in the provision of ward-based clinical pharmacy services.
• The provision of advice, as required, to medical and nursing staff on the proper and economic use of drugs and medicines including participation in schemes for the dissemination of information in relation to drugs and drug usage.
• The participation in personal continuing education activities, to ensure continual professional development.
• Participation in protocol and guideline development, quality initiatives, audit and service development
• To assist the Chief Pharmacist and/or Senior Pharmacist in the performance of his/her duties and responsibilities, as required.
• The provision of pharmaceutical support to outlying hospitals in Longford and Westmeath, when requested by the Chief Pharmacist or senior Pharmacist.
• Have a working knowledge of the Health Information and Quality Authority (HIQA) Standards as they apply to the role for example, Standards for Healthcare, National Standards for the Prevention and Control of Healthcare Associated Infections, Hygiene Standards etc.
The Candidate:
• A recognized qualification as a Pharmacist - Master of Pharmacy (MPharm) degree that is accredited by the Pharmaceutical Society of Ireland (PSI)
• Experience in a similar setting desirable
• Permission to work in Ireland
• Professional approach to work
